Three piles of cards

Three kinds of squares, three piles of cards. Try it here: draw a card.

A blue square

Rapids

Take a card from this pile, read it aloud and sail forward.

For example: You collect rainwater in a barrel and use it to water your flowers and wash your bike. This ensures that rainwater is reused. Go ahead.

A brown square

Against the current

Take a card from this pile, read it aloud and sail back.

For example: Your house is not connected to the sewer system. Wastewater flows directly into the river. This is bad for fish and plants. Go back.

A large blue square with three drops

Group challenge

The whole group takes on the task. Succeed, and the group moves five squares forward, shared out as you like.

For example: Give the river a voice! Imagine you are the river. What would you say to convince people to take better care of you?

How to play

The aim is to get everyone to the sea.

  1. Step 1

    Get ready

Print the board and the cards, and sort the cards into three piles. Put all pawns on the start square. Whoever rolls highest goes first.

  2. Step 2

    Roll and sail

Take turns clockwise and move as many squares as you roll. Land on a blue, brown or three-drop square? Take a card from that pile.

  3. Step 3

    Reach the sea

Land exactly on square 42 to reach the sea. Roll too high and you move back the difference. Made it? Keep rolling and give each roll to another player.

After a Rapids or Against the current card, you stay where you land and take no new card.
